The Larder changes lives through food. We do this through our training academy and cook school, where we provide a range of learning opportunities and create great tasting food at affordable prices.
The Larder is unique in Scotland in its approach to food and income generation and is now the ‘go to place’ in West Lothian if you want to learn about food or access affordable fresh food which is made by our trainee chefs.
Founded in March 2010 as a result of two main drivers; rising youth unemployment and a national decline in cooking ability.
The overall aim was to deliver commercial leisure cookery classes and develop enterprise income streams that would support the delivery of hospitality training and employability services for those furthest from the job market.
The Larder initially operated from community facilities until August 2014 when new premises were secured and a bespoke cook school installed. The Larder has been operating as a Co Ltd by Guarantee Since August 2011 and trading since April 2011.
In this time a strong customer base of over 900 customers in leisure cookery courses for children, adults and corporate customers has been developed. In addition training and employability services have grown and provide increased opportunities for the most disadvantaged people to learn in a supportive and nurturing environment.
